I Teach About Metal Detecting & Mudlarking: I have written 6 books and I am a 23 year NYC educator who is passionate about all things metal detecting. My favorite is beach metal detecting but I also love to metal detect for history on dirt.
As an elementary school educator, lay historian, and weekend hunter of artifacts, specimens, and all things cool, I’ve found few things that can capture my students interest more than the stuff I drag in on Mondays. Just as every artifact and/or specimen has a story, so too does every student and I’ve found over time that how they engage with, analyze, and interpret the items I bring to them is heavily influenced by their stories. While one may want to know the value of the Spanish 1/2 real coin I’ve brought in, another may be intrigued by the Spanish writing or mint mark from Mexico City. However different their individual experiences with an artifact or specimen may be, their levels of interest and engagement have been universally positive and it’s a practice I plan to continue with in the classroom. Beyond their historical and cultural significance, both the artifacts themselves and the tools we use to discover them help to demonstrate the industrial and technological evolution of society. From round balls and couriers on horseback to minie balls and the telegraph, they tell the story of us and that’s pretty much what I teach. – Bill Dyas

DAYS UNTIL TREASURE EXPO ’24
We have a passion for digging up relics and buried treasure and so do you! So why not join us on one of our many events? Starting in the summer of 2023 we will be offering the following events:
- Metal Detecting Events of all sizes
- Personalized Educational seminars
- Speaking engagements
- Scuba Diving Fossil Charters
Summer 2024 Meg Ledge Trip (TBD)
Join US as we travel 28 miles of the coast of North Carolina to search Monster Megladon Sharks teeth on the “Meg Ledge”. This is a awesome trip made better by diving with friends and metal detecting on the beach in the evenings.
To attend this charter you must be a certified Advanced open water diver with a Nitrox speciality card and able to show them at the time of booking the charter. This is a small group trip and is limited to 6 divers.
Here is what is included:
- 3 Nights lodging minutes from the boat and minutes from the ocean
- 2 days of diving (6 tanks total)
- Cost of tank rentals and nitrox
- Mate tip
- Boat fuel cost covered
- Special Gone Diggin Merch only for this trip
- Discounts on dive related gear you may need for the trip
Reality and Refund- These trips are mother nature dependent and there is always a chance of being “Blown Out” or the seas being too rough for the boat to go out. In that case the cost of the charter will be fully refunded. Lodging if you choose to cancel will be a refund of %50 of the cost of the lodging if cancelling 30 days prior the event. If the dives are a no go we will still have the possibility of treasure hunting which includes metal detecting a very popular tourist breach for gold and silver. Either way we will have a great time!
